SURVEY TO BE POSTED SOON

To discover the wishes of the congregation, an online survey will be available soon to determine the congregation’s readiness for re-opening of the church for in-person worship. While the survey will be available online, anyone without online access should contact Jonathan Bacon for a printed survey form.

NEW ADMINISTRATIVE COORDINATOR FOR MISSION ROAD HIRED

At Sunday’s brief Business Meeting, the Congregation approved the appointment of Kennetha Kuttler as the new Administrative Coordinator, replacing Clint Reine. Funds were approved to hire Kennetha and Clint concurrently for the next two months to facilitate the transition.

YOUR VOTE REQUESTED – BOOK CLUB SURVEY!

The current All Good Books group schedule ends with Kristin Hannah’s "The Great Alone" which we’ll discuss on February 18, 2021, on Zoom at 7 PM. So, it’s time to add some more titles!

We’ve set up a survey that’s available at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/68C9P6F

The book club is sponsored by the Mission Road Congregation and you’re all invited to join! If interested, please take a couple of minutes to respond. You can vote for up to 6 titles plus add a suggestion or two at the end of the survey form. Note that descriptions of all the books on the survey are listed on our website at https://allbooksclub.wordpress.com/book-suggestions/

We also agreed that on February 18th we’d spend a few minutes "opening the floor" for additional questions or comments on "The Overstory," January’s discussion topic.

Please complete the survey no later than Monday, February 8 and we look forward to you joining us on February 18th!

CHURCH DIRECTORY REQUEST

Clint Reine is assembling a new Church Directory and requests that all members of the Mission Road Congregation Family send him an up-to-date photo (selfie or family portrait) for the new directory. Please send ASAP.

THIS WEEK: PANTRY DROP-OFF AND SPECIAL REQUEST

The Mission Road Congregation continues to serve an important need by providing food stuffs, school supplies and new or gently used clothing for the Central Avenue Center of Hope. Please add the following drop off dates to your calendar. Staff will be available at church between 10 AM and noon on these dates:

Saturday, February 6, 2021

Saturday, February 20, 2021

Saturday, March 6, 2021

SPECIAL REQUEST: There’s a knitting club in the neighborhood close to the church and they’ve been knitting items for adults and children. They have brought those items to us as donations for the Center of Hope. If you have extra yarn, please drop it off at the church and we’ll share with the knitting group so they can create more clothing items.

WORSHIP AVALABILITY FORMS DUE TODAY!

Preparation is beginning for the quarterly schedule. Our goal is to publish the schedule one month prior to the first scheduled Sunday. Please take a moment to fill out the form (available online at carynpbro or mail this form to: Mission Road Community of Christ, Attention Pam O’Neal, 7842 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208.

Please return no later than February 1, 2021.

ORGAN MUSIC ADDED TO WORSHIP SERVICES

Blake West, is a member of the Lenexa congregation. He has also been a member of Mission Road and several of you may know him. He has asked and been given permission to practice on the Mission Road pipe organ. He had been practicing on the Temple organ and wanted to practice on an instrument closer to where he lives. Blake is willing to record selections and send them to the PowerPoint provider. If you are a presider or service planner and would like to add some Organ music to your worship service call Larry and he can put you in touch with Blake. As far as that goes I’m sure there are other Mission Road members in our congregation that would be happy to share their talents, too. Think prelude and meditation music as well as hymns.

THIS SUNDAY’S WORSHIP

The Sunday, February 7, 2021, worship theme is “Proclaim Holiness” with Jennifer Libeer as the speaker. Debbie Rushfelt will preside and serve as the worship planner. Jonathan Bacon will provide the PowerPoint and host the Zoom meeting assisted by Caryn Brown.

You are invited to join us online starting at 8:45 AM for conversation and fellowship with the worship activities beginning at 9 AM. After the service, we will keep the Zoom session open for folks to fellowship until the Adult Class begins at 10 AM. We hope you can join us.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS

The Mission Road Adult Sunday School Class will continue to study “Sermon on the Mount” by Amy-Jill Levine. This coming Sunday, Jonathan Bacon will lead the discussion as the class concludes coverage of Chapter 2 (“The Extensions”). Then Paul Bennetts will lead the discussion of Chapter 3 (“Practicing Piety”). Class begins at 10 AM following the Sunday morning worship.

MISSION ROAD CONGREGATION ONLINE MEETINGS

CURRENT CHURCH RE-OPENING STATUS

World Church buildings and historic sites remain closed. The Mission Road Congregation remains closed until infection rates in the area drop.

TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Please remember that church expenses continue, even when we’re not meeting in the building. Mary Reichenbach, the Congregation’s Financial Officer has indicated that contributions can be mailed to her house (10223 Briar Dr., Overland Park, KS 66207) or the church (7842 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208), or you can sign up for eTithing on the World Church website https://www.cofchrist.org/etithing). Any of these options will enable you to continue your regular contributions.

If you use the eTithing site, select the United States link and then scroll down to Mission Road Community of Christ. When you click on that page, there will be an option in the upper right-hand corner to ’sign up’ to create your account and enter either your bank account information for direct debit or a credit card to charge your contribution, or ’sign in’ if you have already set up your account. You may also choose a one-time contribution or a continuing contribution. Most of the contribution options on our tithing envelopes are available on the Mission Road eTithing page. If you have additional questions about electronic contributions, please contact Mary.

CONCERNING PRAYER REQUESTS

Please know that any member of the congregation can post prayer requests or share information about members, and events on the Mission Road Members Only Facebook page. You do not need to send the information for approval to anyone. In fact, doing so may slow down the dissemination of your request. Be sure to include the person needing prayers and what situation has occurred (if you wish to share that information). If your post concerns an event or news item, be sure to include the basics in your posting (such as who, what, where and when).

For prayer requests, if you do not have access to Facebook, then please call Paul Bennetts our Congregational Pastoral Care Coordinator.

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITHOUT EMAIL OR FACEBOOK ACCESS?

If you know someone in the congregation that does not have email and does not use Facebook, please let Jonathan Bacon know. We are trying to be sure everyone in the congregation has access to periodic news updates and information on congregational activities.
