UPCOMING EVENTS FOR WEEK OF MAY 29

MESSAGE FROM LARRY & KAREN BIRKBY, CO-PASTORS

As was announced a few weeks ago we have instituted a new program to introduce New Hymns from the Community of Christ Sings Hymnal in our services. In order for this to happen in a consistent and organized manner, the following procedure is suggested.

  1. Janice Hedrick will select TWO NEW Hymns for each Sunday in accordance with that date’s worship theme. One month before that date, she will give titles of those two hymns to the Worship Planner and Presider. The Worship Planner or Presider will choose one of the two suggested hymns to be sung by the Congregation in the 10:20 “New Hymn Moment.”
  2. On each Sunday, Worship Planners may or may not use that New Hymn later in the Worship Service.
  3. Implementing this activity will require consistent attention to the following: 10:15 Chimes will “chime” for ending Classes.

10:20 The “New Hymn Moment” will begin.

10:25 Instrumental Prelude begins for Worship.

10:30 Worship Service begins. This is a very tight time-line which behooves ALL to be prompt!

4. Weekly Song Leaders will be listed on the regular monthly worship schedules.

We invite all to come each Sunday, 10:20 AM, to share in the New Hymn Moment.

Thank you for your attention to this new way we can learn some new hymns that can be used to enhance our worship experience. We hope you will find this experience helpful and fun as we learn some new hymns. Perhaps you will discover a new favorite hymn.

If you are contemplating making a donation to this wonderful cause "NOW" is the time to maximize the benefits of your donation.

CONTINUED NEED FOR SCHOOL SUPPLIES!

The second semester of school is well underway, but that doesn’t diminish the need of many disadvantaged students for notebooks, pencils, paper, erasers, markers and all the traditional school items. There is no end date on this request. The Central Avenue Center of Hope can use your donations of school supplies anytime during the year. The need is always greater than the supply. Next time you are shopping, why not buy an extra notebook or package of pencils, erasers, or any school supply and bring to church.

CENTRAL AVENUE CENTER of HOPE NEEDS PANTRY ITEMS!

The CACH desperately needs pantry items to share with the needy families they serve. Food pantry items: Pork & Beans, Pinto Beans (dry or canned), Spaghetti Sauce.

Kitchen items: kitchen trash bags, bleach, and dish soap.

Thank you for your continued support of Central Avenue Center of Hope.

DISCUSSION OF MARCH ALL GOOD BOOKS SELECTION CONTINUES IN APRIL

We just scratched the surface in our discussion last week of Fredrik Backman’s “My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She’s Sorry,” so the All Good Books club is carrying the discussion over to next month’s meeting; to be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 7 PM. If you haven’t read the book yet, here’s your second chance.

Be sure to visit the website for possible discussion questions at https://allbooksclub.wordpress.com/2016/03/09/why-my-grandmother-asked-me-to-tell-you-shes-sorry/

SOCKS STILL NEEDED NOW!

We are collecting good new or used socks for the students at Osage City High School. Your past donations of shoes are gratefully appreciated; now we need socks! Please bring your donations of new or used (but still useful) socks to church this Sunday.

On Sunday, April 3, 2016, Paul Bennetts with wrap up the McLaren book by leading the discussion on Chapter 21 (“Seeing The Kingdom”) plus (if time allows) the Afterward and Appendix 1 (“Why Didn’t We See It Sooner?”) & Appendix 2 (“Plotting Goodness”).

MISSED LAST SUNDAY’S SERVICE?

Would you like to hear the message from last Sunday or a Sunday service from 3 years ago? Audio recordings of many of the last several years’ worth of worship services are available online at https://goo.gl/wREl03. Note this is a new shortened URL that will take you to a Google Drive with many of the recordings from the past.

Recordings are located in folders corresponding to the year (2015, 2016, and so on).

If you missed a Sunday, this provides you a way to hear the music and the message.

The beginning numbers of each filename indicate the date of the service.

The first 4 digits represent the year, the next two digits indicate the month

and last two digits represent the day of the month.

In most cases, the date is followed by a dash and then the first initial and

last name of the speaker. Enjoy!
