UPCOMING EVENTS

CENTRAL AVENUE CENTER OF HOPE NEWS!

The Center’s Paper Drive is still in progress until October 25, 2015. All paper items desperately needed (paper plates, toilet paper, napkins, and more)!

Also Coats, Jackets, Blankets, and any donations of this type are always accepted (Is it time to clean out your closets?). If we as a congregation can make a concentrated effort to donate now through October 25, it will help meet the tremendous needs that come with winter; so many people are truly in need.

And don’t forget: Food items are always needed!

PRAIRIE VILLAGE PEANUT BUTTER DRIVE

We are also helping the city of Prairie Village with their annual Harvester’s Peanut Butter Drive from October 4 thru Oct 11, 2015. So bring and extra jar of peanut butter to help Harvester’s provide for those in need.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS SCHEDULE

The Adult Sunday School class is studying Mark Scherer’s "The Journey of a People: The Era of Reorganization, 1844 to 1946." This coming Sunday, the class will discuss Chapter 21 (“The Church in Society”). Jane Landrum will lead the class discussion.

COMING IN OCTOBER

The Adult Sunday School class voted overwhelmingly to study The Secret Message of Jesus: Uncovering the Truth that Could Change Everything by Brian D. McLaren. In the book, McLaren invites the reader to discover afresh the transforming message of Jesus – an open invitation to radical change, an enlightening revelation that exposes shame and ignites hope, an epic story that is good news for everyone, whatever their gender, race, class, politics, or religion.

Copies of the book are and the class will start in October 2015. The book cost is $15.50 for the paperback (which includes taxes); a savings over the retail price of $15.99. If you want a copy, contact Jonathan Bacon. The cost of the book should be added to your Sunday offering with a notation that it covers the cost of the book. The book is also available from Amazon.com for the Kindle or Kindle app @ $8.99.
