UPCOMING MISSION ROAD CONGREGATION EVENTS AND PROJECTS

SPECIAL PRAYER REQUEST

Eloise Snider was admitted to the hospital over the weekend. She is undergoing several tests, some of which have come back with good reports. Please add Eloise and John to your prayer time. Also, pray for guidance for the doctors and medical staff that they may be lead to find the correct treatment for Eloise.

BAPTISMAL SERVICE

William Cortes to be baptized on June 11th. Please mark your calendar so you can attend and support William and his family.

ADULT INFORMATION CLASS ABOUT THE COMMUNITY OF CHRIST

This new class continues each Sunday for adults interested in learning about church membership. This class is informational, if class members want baptism or if class members simply want to know more about Community of Christ. Baptism is not necessarily an outcome of class attendance. The class will be held during the regular Sunday School hour (starting at 9:15 AM). Please join the class, taught by Ron Millard and Karen Birkby, if interested.

ADULT CLASS TO START STUDYING THE APOSTLE PAUL…SOON

Around the end of June the Adult Sunday School class will begin a study of the Apostle Paul using the text “Encountering Paul: Understanding the Man and His Message” by Tatha Wiley.

The trade paperback costs $26 plus shipping but we’re trying to find used books that would cost less. If you want a book, please contact Jonathan Bacon (see the church directory for email or phone number). Let Jonathan know if you want a new book or would be willing to buy a used book at a lower price (right now the used ones we find run from $8-$20).

HERITAGE DAY STORYTELLERS NIGHT COMING TO MISSION ROAD

Do you love a good story? If so, we have an exciting evening for you! Celebrate Heritage Day this year with Apostle Art Smith, Mark Scherer, and Barb Walden as they share some of their favorite stories from church history at the Mission Road congregation on Sunday, September 17 at 7:00 PM. Our storytellers will share the theme "Preserve the Past ~ Inspire the Future."

The Storytellers evening is sponsored by Mission Road congregation and Community of Christ Historic Sites Foundation in support of summer interns who share the church’s stories at our historic sites.

A donation opportunity for the Alma Blair Internship Program will be available for those interested in supporting this unique educational opportunity for young adults. All are invited. No RSVP needed.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS! CAMP MITIOG SUPPORT

Camp MITIOG has been supported by members of the Mission Rad Congregation for the last 46 years that. The camp has been accepted as a recipient of matching funds from the Camps for Kids organization in 2017. This means that for every dollar donated, Camps for Kids will match the donation up to $1,500.00 per donation made before July 31, 2017. This is a fantastic opportunity for the campers, because even a $20.00 donation will go twice as far in providing a quality, American Camping Association accredited camp. Camps for Kids has granted $17,000 designated in matching funds this year. Please help them match the entire amount. If you are contemplating donating to this wonderful cause “NOW” is the time to maximize the benefits of your donation.

1.) Please send all donations made payable to:

Camps for Kids-MITIOG

NOTE: all checks made payable to out to “Camp MITIOG” without “Camps for Kids” in the payee line will be returned to MITIOG unmatched and will be deposited through the Mission Center.

2.) Mail the contributions to: Camps for Kids-Camp MITIOG, 5960 Dearborn, suite 225, Mission, KS 66202.

3.) Write in the Memo section of the check or money order, For Camp MITIOG.

Thank you for your consideration of this important project..

CHILDREN’S MOMENT

We will soon be implementing a children moment during our 10:30 worship service. If you are interested in leading a children’s moment, please let the pastors know.

SUN ECLIPSE EVENT

Roger Parish has been researching the upcoming Sun Eclipse event that is coming to our area on Monday August 21st. Roger has researched the best (longest viewing time) and the closest viewing location. Roger has discovered a city park near Kearney, MO that is reasonably close and well suited to view the Eclipse. We would like to know how many people from the Mission Road Congregation might be interested in gathering to experience this historic event. If enough people are interested we can rent a shelter at the park for a minimal fee. Please contact the Pastors to express your interest in attending.

THANKS TO THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTED!

Nick Keehler’s GoFundMission project was funded! Thanks to all who contributed. Nick is a college student (formerly a very active teenager who went to all our MMC summer camps) from the Highlands Congregation. He is studying Religion at Graceland University and was selected by World Service Corps to go help the Community of Christ in England at Dunfield House. He needed to raise funds (through the World Church affiliated "Go Fund Mission" website) to help fund the trip. Thanks to everyone for your support!

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS DISCUSSES CHURCH HISTORY

This coming Sunday, the Adult Sunday School class will discuss Chapter 19 (“A Prophetic People”) in Mark Scherer’s "The Journey of a People”, Volume 3. Jane Landrum will lead the class discussion.

ALL GOOD BOOKS GROUP MEETS THIS COMING WEEK

The next meeting of the All Good Books discussion group will be held this Thursday, May 18, 2017 (a week later than normal) at 7 PM in the Church Library. The group will discuss “The Wright Brothers” by David McCullough. Please plan to join us!

PLEASE REMEMBER: WORSHIP PLANNERS AND PRESIDERS

Remember that the order of worship for the Sunday Bulletin plus announcements are due at least one week prior to the Sunday you are presiding. This deadline is to give pianist, musicians, speakers, and really everyone a minimum amount of time to properly prepare for the service. It is important that these services be sent to all participants the Sunday prior to the Sunday you are planning. The service should also be sent to Clint, for formatting and typing at the same time at the church email address: mrcoc

MISSED LAST SUNDAY’S SERVICE?

Would you like to hear the message from last Sunday or a Sunday service from 3 years ago? Audio recordings of many of the last several years’ worth of worship services are available online at https://goo.gl/wREl03. Note this is a new shortened URL that will take you to a Google Drive with many of the recordings from the past.

Recordings are located in folders corresponding to the year (2015, 2016, and so on).

If you missed a Sunday, this provides you a way to hear the music and the message.

The beginning numbers of each filename indicate the date of the service.

The first 4 digits represent the year; the next two digits indicate the month and last two digits represent the day of the month.

In most cases, the date is followed by a dash and then the first initial and last name of the speaker. Enjoy!

NOTE: If you experience problems playing these audio files be sure you’re running the latest version of your browser or try a different browser. In some cases, you may be required to download the audio file before playing it.

The following list includes some recent audio recordings:

14 May 2017 message by Debbie Rushfelt, filename 20170514-DRushfelt.mp3

7 May 2017 message by John O’Neal, filename 20170507-JONeal.mp3

CONCERNING PRAYER REQUESTS

Please know that any member of the congregation can post prayer requests or share information about members and events on the Mission Road Members Only Facebook page. You do not need to send the information for approval to anyone. In fact doing so may slow down the dissemination of your request. Be sure to include the person needing prayers and what situation has occurred (if you wish to share that information). If your post concerns an event or news item, be sure to include the basics in your posting (such as who, what, where and when).

For prayer requests, if you do not have access to Facebook, then please call Paul Bennetts or John Trinkl Sr., our Congregational Pastoral Care Coordinators.
