THIS WEEK’S MISSION ROAD CONGREGATION EVENTS AND PROJECTS

SPECIAL BUSINESS MEETING JULY 23

There will be a congregational business meeting (and no classes) during the Sunday School time period on July 23, 2017. The agenda includes a discussion of replacing the carpet in the Church Sanctuary and Nursery. To proceed, the congregation will need to amend the 2017 budget to cover the cost of replacing the carpet.

ADULT CLASS STUDIES THE LIFE AND LETTERS OF THE APOSTLE PAUL

On Sunday, July 2, Dennis Wood will lead the Adult Sunday School class discussion of Chapter 2 in “Encountering Paul: Understanding the Man and His Message” by Tatha Wiley.

All copies of the class text have been claimed. If you want a copy, please contact Jonathan Bacon (see the church directory) ASAP. We’ve bought up all the used copies we could find, so now we’re looking at new copies that (including shipping) cost $23 each; normal retail is $26 plus shipping. If you want a copy, let us know. To pay for the book, you simply add the cost to your offering with a notation on your offering envelope that the amount covers the Adult Sunday School book.

ADULT CLASS STUDIES THE COMMUNITY OF CHRIST

This new class continues each Sunday for adults interested in learning about church membership. This class is informational, if class members want baptism or if class members simply want to know more about Community of Christ. Baptism is not necessarily an outcome of class attendance. The class will be held during the regular Sunday School hour (starting at 9:15 AM). Please join the class, taught by Ron Millard and Karen Birkby, if interested.

ALL GOOD BOOKS TO MEET JULY 13

The All Good Books group’s next meeting is Thursday, July 13, 2017 in the Church Library at 7 PM. On that date, we’ll discuss The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware.

Suggested discussion questions on the novel are available at https://goo.gl/Hc7K6u. Come and join in the discussion!

HAVE YOU PICKED UP YOUR NEW CHURCH DIRECTORY?

The new 2017 Church Directory is available on the table in the Fellowship Hall. Be sure to pick up your copy on Sunday.

60TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION FOR THE ATHEYS

The children of Margaret and Charles Athey invite you to an Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Mission Road Community of Christ Congregation. The Atheys request “No presents, your presence is your present!”

SUN ECLIPSE EVENT

Roger Parish has been researching the upcoming Sun Eclipse event that is coming to our area on Monday August 21, 2017. Roger has researched the best (longest viewing time) and the closest viewing location. Roger has discovered a city park near Kearney, MO that is reasonably close and well suited to view the Eclipse. Several people are interested so Roger rented a shelter at the park for a minimal fee. Parking is close to the shelter but it is first come. Please contact the Pastors to express your interest in attending, too. We would like to know how many people from the Mission Road Congregation might be interested in gathering to experience this historic event.

HERITAGE DAY STORYTELLERS NIGHT COMING TO MISSION ROAD

Do you love a good story? If so, we have an exciting evening for you! Celebrate Heritage Day this year with Apostle Art Smith, Mark Scherer, and Barb Walden as they share some of their favorite stories from church history at the Mission Road congregation on Sunday, September 17 at 7:00 PM. Our storytellers will share the theme "Preserve the Past ~ Inspire the Future."

The Storytellers evening is sponsored by Mission Road congregation and Community of Christ Historic Sites Foundation in support of summer interns who share the church’s stories at our historic sites.

A donation opportunity for the Alma Blair Internship Program will be available for those interested in supporting this unique educational opportunity for young adults. All are invited. No RSVP needed.

MISSED LAST SUNDAY’S SERVICE?

Would you like to hear the message from last Sunday or a Sunday service from 3 years ago? Audio recordings of many of the last several years’ worth of worship services are available online at https://goo.gl/wREl03. Note this is a new shortened URL that will take you to a Google Drive with many of the recordings from the past.

Recordings are located in folders corresponding to the year (2015, 2016, and so on).

If you missed a Sunday, this provides you a way to hear the music and the message.

The beginning numbers of each filename indicate the date of the service.

The first 4 digits represent the year; the next two digits indicate the month and last two digits represent the day of the month.

In most cases, the date is followed by a dash and then the first initial and last name of the speaker. Enjoy!

NOTE: If you experience problems playing these audio files be sure you’re running the latest version of your browser or try a different browser. In some cases, you may be required to download the audio file before playing it.

The following list includes some recent audio recordings:

2 July 2017 message by Jerry Rushfelt, filename 20170702-GRushfelt.mp3

25 June 2017 message by John O’Neal, filename 20170625-JONeal.mp3

18 June 2017 message by Kennetha Kuttler, filename 20170618-KKuttler.mp3

11 June 2017 message by Paul Bennetts, filename 20170611-PBennetts.mp3

4 June 2017 message by Karen Birkby, filename 20170604-KBirkby.mp3

CONCERNING PRAYER REQUESTS

Please know that any member of the congregation can post prayer requests or share information about members and events on the Mission Road Members Only Facebook page. You do not need to send the information for approval to anyone. In fact doing so may slow down the dissemination of your request. Be sure to include the person needing prayers and what situation has occurred (if you wish to share that information). If your post concerns an event or news item, be sure to include the basics in your posting (such as who, what, where and when).

For prayer requests, if you do not have access to Facebook, then please call Paul Bennetts or John Trinkl Sr., our Congregational Pastoral Care Coordinators.
