A NEW WAY TO GIVE: (CENTER OF HOPE)

Paul and Janice Hedrick will be offering their son, Doug, and daughter-in-law, Maria’s collection of mainly South American Nativity sets for sale. You may remember that Maria donated some of her nativity sets several years ago.

All proceeds from the sale of these items will be donated to Central Avenue Center of Hope. These items are excellent for gift giving or to add to your holiday décor.

The sale will begin on Sunday, October 28 during the chili supper. They will be open for sale in the small chapel from 6:30 pm to 8:00pm. The sale of these items will continue on Sundays November 4 and November 11 in the Fellowship Hall beginning at 8:45 and until 12:30 each Sunday. Items will not be priced but a minimum of $5.00 per set will be appreciated and so will your generosity. Checks should be written to Central Avenue Center of Hope (CACH).

POT LUCK PLANNED

We have word that Jack and Jeanette Cave will be in the area visiting and joining us for church on November 11. We will have a POT LUCK dinner immediately following the service that day, so everyone can have a better chance to visit with them and get caught up. Mark your calendars!

BOOK CLUB UPDATE

During last week’s book club meeting the group talked about some of the contributors to America’s World War II war effort. Two online sources were mentioned: the first the Snider’s mentioned an article on Vera Davis in the Martin City Telegraph. In it, she discusses her experiences as a “Rosie the Riveter.” The article can be found at https://bit.ly/2PId5MZ

The second online source is an audio recording of Marilyn Gairn’s Father focusing on his prisoner of war experiences. The audio recording can be found at https://bit.ly/2CsSmZW The link goes to the Oral history interview with Martin L. Parisot – Collections Search – United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

We had a very enjoyable discussion last week and look forward to discussing “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” by David Grann on Thursday, November 15, 2018. As usual, we’ll meet at the Community of Christ Mission Road Congregation (7842 Mission Road) at 7 PM.

Recordings are located in folders corresponding to the year (e.g., 2017, 2018). If you missed a Sunday, this provides you a way to hear the music and the message.

Each audio recording begins with the date of the service (20180805 represents August 5, 2018). The date is followed by a dash and the first initial and last name of the speaker.

NOTE: If you experience problems playing these audio files be sure you’re running the latest version of your browser or try a different browser. In some cases, you may be required to download the audio file before playing it.

The following list includes some recent audio recordings:

CONCERNING PRAYER REQUESTS

Please know that any member of the congregation can post prayer requests or share information about members and events on the Mission Road Members Only Facebook page. You do not need to send the information for approval to anyone. In fact, doing so may slow down the dissemination of your request. Be sure to include the person needing prayers and what situation has occurred (if you wish to share that information). If your post concerns an event or news item, be sure to include the basics in your posting (such as who, what, where and when).

For prayer requests, if you do not have access to Facebook, then please call Paul Bennetts our Congregational Pastoral Care Coordinator.
