MISSION ROAD CONGREGATION EVENTS AND PROJECTS

THANK YOU TO MISSION ROAD!

The Center of Hope sent a Thank You note for the children’s Easter Story books that were given to the children at The Center of Hope on Good Friday.

JUICE REQUEST

The Center has put out a request for juice. They typically give a small glass of juice with each lunch. They use about 3 bottles of juice each day. They have temporarily lost the funding that has provided them the juice, so they have put out a request for juice donations. So we will do Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches to another time, and concentrate on juice!

If possible, lets have each family adopt a day’s worth of juice.

Other ideas for the summer are lemonade or kool-aid mix, crackers, sugar, spaghetti sauce, shoes, rain gear, jeans, and summer items.

Blessings to you all!

BUSINESS MEETING

The business meeting held on Sunday, April 28, 2019, found support for all the recently priesthood calls. Ordinations will be scheduled after some Temple School classes have been completed. We ask that you offer your support of these calls and continue to pray for their guidance as you do for each of us as we share the work of the Lord.

Also approved was funding to replace the HVAC equipment for the sanctuary. The building committee will review the equipment quotes and select a contractor to replace the equipment.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL TOPIC

The Adult class will resume meeting on May 5th at 9:15 AM and will discuss Chapter 34 (“In Quest of Reformation”) from the text ("The Story of Christianity: The Early Church to the Dawn of the Reformation, Volume 1" by Justo Gonzalez).

On the May 5th we will begin discussing the section on Girolamo Savonarola on page 422. Dennis Wood will lead the class discussion. If time permits, the class will continue to discuss Chapter 35 on “Renaissance and Humanism.” Jane Landrum will lead that discussion.

THE NEW ADULT CLASS TEXT IS HERE!

The Adult Sunday School class has voted to continue the study of “The Story of Christianity” with Volume 2 of “The Story of the Christianity: The Reformation to the Present Day” by Justo L. Gonzales.

We have about 12 copies remaining. The paperback edition normally costs $26.99 but we were able to obtain new copies from the publisher for $20 each. If you’re interested in a copy, they’re available on the bookshelf in the Church Library. Funds for the books should be added to your weekly offering with a notation that the additional donation is for the “Adult Class Book.”

MAY ALL GOOD BOOKS MEETING

The All Good Books group will meet again on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 7 PM in the Church Library to discuss "Crazy Rich Asians" by Kevin Kwan. This is one week later than normal in the month.

The schedule of upcoming books for discussion is always available at https://allbooksclub.wordpress.com/meeting-dates-books/.

MISSED LAST SUNDAY’S SERVICE?

Audio recordings of past worship services are available online at https://bit.ly/2MSgZW8. This is a short URL for a Google Drive folder with past recordings.

Recordings are located in folders corresponding to the year (e.g., 2017, 2018). If you missed a Sunday, this provides you a way to hear the music and the message.

Each audio recording begins with the date of the service (20190224 represents February 24, 2019). The date is followed by a dash and the first initial and last name of the speaker.

NOTE: If you experience problems playing these audio files be sure you’re running the latest version of your browser or try a different browser. In some cases, you may be required to download the audio file before playing it.

The following list includes some recent audio recordings:

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITHOUT EMAIL OR FACEBOOK ACCESS?

If you know someone in the congregation that does not have email and does not use Facebook, please let Jonathan Bacon know. We’re trying to be sure everyone in the congregation has access to periodic news updates and information on congregational activities.

FOR FUTURE CHURCH CLOSINGS

In the future, if inclement weather forces the cancellation of church services at Mission Road, we’ll post the closing on our church Facebook page, send a message to the church email list and list the closing on KCTV Channel 5 and KSHB Channel 41.

Be sure to check the TV listings for either "Community of Christ – Mission Road" (KSHB 41) or "Community of Christ – Prairie Village" (KCTV5). The listing will be under one of those two names.

CONCERNING PRAYER REQUESTS

Please know that any member of the congregation can post prayer requests or share information about members and events on the Mission Road Members Only Facebook page. You do not need to send the information for approval to anyone. In fact, doing so may slow down the dissemination of your request. Be sure to include the person needing prayers and what situation has occurred (if you wish to share that information). If your post concerns an event or news item, be sure to include the basics in your posting (such as who, what, where and when).

For prayer requests, if you do not have access to Facebook, then please call Paul Bennetts our Congregational Pastoral Care Coordinator.
