MISSION ROAD CONGREGATION EVENTS AND PROJECTS
TIME FOR MEDITATION AND REFLECTION
Each Sunday after the Sunday School Hour, you’re invited to move into the sanctuary starting around 10:20 AM to prepare for the 10:30 AM worship service. Announcements will be given at 10:25 AM. Following the announcements the musicians in our congregation will provide music for your personal mediation and reflection. We hope that this schedule change will allow you to better prepare for the Worship Service. If you wish to visit with your church friends, we invite you to do so in the Fellowship Hall or after the worship service.
BIRTHDAY LUNCH
The January Birthday Lunch which was held last Saturday at 11:30 AM at the Olive Garden restaurant at 6750 W 95th St. Overland Park. We will be celebrating all those that have their birthday in February and March on March 21th. This event is to celebrate all those that have a birthday during the scheduled months. Please plan to join us to celebrate with all those enjoying another birthday. This event is not just for those with a birthday during the scheduled month. We plan to have a Birthday Lunch every odd numbered month.

NEWS FROM HMA ABOUT THE HONDURAN PROGRAM
Greetings,
I have finished compiling the 2019 data for Saira’s work. Once again, she has had a very busy year with 3158 patient visits and 78,098 doses of medications dispensed.
In August we were helping with some of the village clinics and her total care of the patient is so remarkable. At a recent clinic a child was treated for a kernel of corn in the nose. Having spent most of my nursing career in outpatient surgery, I chuckle at his facial expression. Children are children wherever they live!
Yesterday Saira emailed us about a 38-year-old mother with 3 children who has had abdominal surgery and needs medications. As part of this program, we provide $1000 for Special Medical Needs such as this. Saira asked permission to use $245 for her assistance. The Mission Center Financial Officer in Honduras holds these special funds so there is no delay when needed. Last year only $100 was used to help a man who had had a stroke. We were able to visit with him in August at a clinic and see how well he had recovered. HMA’s international healthcare experience acknowledges that these special needs will arise and your donations make this urgent assistance happen.
Saira continues to provide nursing care at church gatherings at La Buena Fe Campground activities. She provides consultation and care to about 1/3 of the attendees. These visits often extend well into the night and early morning. Saira is seen as a vital member of the staff and very well respected by all ages.
At the monthly clinics Saira sees the diabetics and hypertensive patients first. When you look at the medication doses, diabetic meds account for 12,700 tablets and hypertensive meds account for 16,376 tablets. These two diagnoses represent 37% of medications Saira dispensed. We knew that the cost of medications would be a significant cost to keep the Program running. Saira has a lot of experience treating diabetic and vascular ulcers so people seek her out.
HMA truly appreciates your donations to assist the Honduras Healthcare Program in rural villages. Saira and the Central American Mission Center appreciate your contributions as they help the persons in their country and in their church. They tell us this repeatedly in emails and when we visit in country. We pass along their gratitude and blessings! Thank You for making this Program a success!

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITHOUT EMAIL OR FACEBOOK ACCESS?
If you know someone in the congregation that does not have email and does not use Facebook, please let Jonathan Bacon know. We’re trying to be sure everyone in the congregation has access to periodic news updates and information on congregational activities.
FOR FUTURE CHURCH CLOSINGS
In the future, if inclement weather forces the cancellation of church services at Mission Road, we’ll post the closing on our church Facebook page, send a message to the church email list and list the closing on KCTV Channel 5 and KSHB Channel 41.
Be sure to check the TV listings for either "Community of Christ – Mission Road" (KSHB 41) or "Community of Christ – Prairie Village" (KCTV5). The listing will be under one of those two names.
CONCERNING PRAYER REQUESTS
Please know that any member of the congregation can post prayer requests or share information about members and events on the Mission Road Members Only Facebook page. You do not need to send the information for approval to anyone. In fact, doing so may slow down the dissemination of your request. Be sure to include the person needing prayers and what situation has occurred (if you wish to share that information). If your post concerns an event or news item, be sure to include the basics in your posting (such as who, what, where and when).
For prayer requests, if you do not have access to Facebook, then please call Paul Bennetts our Congregational Pastoral Care Coordinator.
