TORONTO COMMUNITY OF CHRIST – SEPTEMBER 20 MESSAGE

In this morning’s, adult class, Dennis Wood shared the message by David Howlett that discusses “Justice in God’s Vineyard.” At the request of class members, we’re including the link to the YouTube video. The entire worship experience is worth watch, but if you want to go directly to David Howlett’s message, it begins at 30:20 minutes into the video.

HELP NEEDED: CENTER FOR HOPE’S THANKSGIVING MEAL

The Central Avenue Center of Hope (CACH) serves the homeless, unemployed or under-employed, low- income individuals and families in Kansas City’s Inter-Core. During 2019 served over 8,700 children, adults, and elderly folks.

The Mission Road Congregation has helped fund the Thanksgiving Meal for the past several years and invite you to help do so again!

CACH will provide “To-Go Meal Thanksgiving Boxes” for the people it serves. Please help with the cost. Send your contribution to Mary Reichenbach, 10223 Briar Drive, Overland Park, KS 66207 and make your check payable to Mission Road Congregation with the notation CACH Holiday Meal. Please send your check to arrive by November 15, 2020 so we can let CACH know what resources will be available from Mission Road. Thank you in advance for your continued generosity!

FOOD PANTRY DROP-OFF THIS WEEK

The Mission Road Congregation continues to serve an important need by providing food stuffs, school supplies and new or gently used clothing for the Central Avenue Center of Hope. In October we provide an astounding 325 pounds of food for the pantry (surpassing September 245 pounds)! The need continues!

Please plan to drop supplies off at church on Saturday, November 14, 2020, between 10 AM and noon. There continues to be a special need for food, school supplies, personal hygiene items, school supplies and t-shirts.

COVID RECOVERY

During our COVID experience and visits with Doctors and other medical staff Karen and I learned some things about viruses and other health facts about what you can do to help minimize illnesses. One thing was to increase your daily intake of vitamins. Even though you may take a daily vitamin and other supplements the list below was what we have been taking.

Recommend daily vitamins to fight off the flu and other viruses.

D-3 3,000 IU

C 2000 IU

Zinc 100 mg

Niacin 500 mg

Magnesium 500 mg

We were told there was a study done in the 60’s at mental hospitals with vitamin D-3. All the patients on one floor were give 3,000 IU of vitamin D-3 and those on other floors were not. Those that received the vitamin D-3 did not get the flu. Those on the other floors did.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

We all want to stay healthy and we are finding the extra vitamins have helped in our recovery. Extra sleep is also beneficial. Larry

The Sunday, November 15, 2020, worship theme is “In Search of Whole Life Stewardship” and will feature a message by Paul Bennetts. Ron Millard will preside and serve as the worship planner. Kennetha Kuttler will provide the PowerPoint and host the Zoom meeting assisted by Robert Sindt.

CURRENT CHURCH RE-OPENING STATUS

Cases of COVID-19 and hospitalizations continue to rise in Kansas. We have not yet met the World Church criteria for reopening our congregation (that is, COVID-19 cases must be stable or declining for three weeks before face-to-face meetings are resumed). We’ll continue to meet using Zoom until the situation changes.

TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Please remember that church expenses continue, even when we’re not meeting in the building. Mary Reichenbach, the Congregation’s Financial Officer has indicated that contributions can be mailed to her house (10223 Briar Dr., Overland Park, KS 66207) or the church (7842 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208), or you can sign up for eTithing on the World Church website https://www.cofchrist.org/etithing). Any of these options will enable you to continue your regular contributions.

If you use the eTithing site, select the United States link and then scroll down to Mission Road Community of Christ. When you click on that page, there will be an option in the upper right-hand corner to ’sign up’ to create your account and enter either your bank account information for direct debit or a credit card to charge your contribution, or ’sign in’ if you have already set up your account. You may also choose a one-time contribution or a continuing contribution. Most of the contribution options on our tithing envelopes are available on the Mission Road eTithing page. If you have additional questions about electronic contributions, please contact Mary.

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITHOUT EMAIL OR FACEBOOK ACCESS?

If you know someone in the congregation that does not have email and does not use Facebook, please let Jonathan Bacon know. We are trying to be sure everyone in the congregation has access to periodic news updates and information on congregational activities.

CONCERNING PRAYER REQUESTS

Please know that any member of the congregation can post prayer requests or share information about members, and events on the Mission Road Members Only Facebook page. You do not need to send the information for approval to anyone. In fact, doing so may slow down the dissemination of your request. Be sure to include the person needing prayers and what situation has occurred (if you wish to share that information). If your post concerns an event or news item, be sure to include the basics in your posting (such as who, what, where and when).

For prayer requests, if you do not have access to Facebook, then please call Paul Bennetts our Congregational Pastoral Care Coordinator.
