CENTER OF HOPE SPECIAL REQUEST

Marsha Nave, director, is having knee replacement on May 21. So that Center of Hope can

remain open for the time she will be out; she is requesting more volunteers to help with

lunch. She has planned out menus for each lunch. She is needing commitments for preparing

the meals, so Chris Lackey and Susan Clark have volunteered to prepare each Tuesday’s

lunch.

Mission Road is committing to 4 Tuesdays (May 25, June 1, 8 and 15).

CACH is still serving the sack/box lunches out a window in the door. A volunteer does the

serving. If anyone is interested in serving, they will need to wear a mask and gloves. Francisco, a regular volunteer, would be there with the server at the window.

In addition to preparing the lunch, some food items are needed that CACH doesn’t have on

hand. We are requesting commitments for the following items. These items are needed by

May 17 at CACH. Therefore, we are asking Mission Road for donations for those items

needed for the 4 Tuesdays.

Volunteers for food items/donations, please call or text Robin Payne at (913-579-4264) to let her know who is committing to which items. Mission Road’s donations will be needed to be dropped off by Saturday, May 15, 2021, at Mission Road. The items needed are:

2 Large Bags Tater Tots (1-2 volunteers)

8 – cans Cream of Mushroom Soup (1-2 volunteers)

3-4 cans Cream of Chicken Soup (1 volunteer)

3-4 Large Pasta Salad (1-2 volunteers)

6-8 chicken/rice side dishes (1-2 volunteers)

4- 6 pkg chili seasoning (1-2 volunteers)

2 – large cans Diced Tomatoes (1 volunteer)

6 – cans Chili Beans (1-2 volunteers)

24-30 Hot Dogs (1-4 volunteers)

24-30 Hot Dog Buns (1-4 volunteers)

120 Juice Boxes (2-4 volunteers)

120 Fruit Cups (2-4 volunteers)

Variety Individual Chip Bags (the big boxes of 30-54 bags are great) (1-2 volunteers)

120 Cookies or Snack Packs (2-4 volunteers)

Please help us meet this important need!

NOTE: Items that need refrigeration should be placed in the Mission Road kitchen and labeled for CACH. Please also alert Robin that the food stuffs are in the refrigerator.

THIS SUNDAY’S WORSHIP: ZOOM ONLY!

While we continue to explore the possibility of offering worship on both Zoom and concurrent in the sanctuary, we need a bit more time. So, the worship service this Sunday, May 2, 2021 will be Zoom only. We invite you to join us from your home.

The worship theme is “Become My Disciples” with Jonathan Bacon as the speaker. Larry Birkby will preside and serve as the worship planner. Brian Libeer will provide the PowerPoint and serve as the Zoom host assisted by Robert Sindt.

You are invited to join us online starting at 10:30 AM for conversation and fellowship with the worship activities beginning at 10:45 AM.

CAMPING SURVEY

From the Midlands Mission Center President Team

Thank you to all who attended our Camping Town Halls! We had some great conversations, and some creative ideas were shared. The 2021 Camping Survey is now available (at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PS8NSBJ) and will be open through April 28th. ANYONE, youth included, who are interested in summer camping is invited to take the survey. The survey is intended for individual responses.

If you have any camping questions and/or feedback that is not captured in the survey that you would like to share please send to the President Team at PresidentTeam also by April 28th.

We hope to have a tentative decision around camping 2021 made and shared no later than May 3rd.

MISSION ROAD MESSAGES/SERMONS ON YOUTUBE

If you missed a Sunday morning message (sermon or homily), you’ll now be able to view them on YouTube. The Community of Christ – Mission Road channel can be accessed at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiCbae5dTgl0cmF9b672skAyPXl-5o1lM (Or by using the shortened, easier to remember weblink: https://tinyurl.com/MissionRoadYouTube).

We are only posting the sermon or Sunday message portion of each service due to copyright concerns. Also please note that in some cases, Zoom failed to record the service.

New videos will be posted during the week following each message/sermon.

TITHES AND OFFERINGS

Please remember that church expenses continue. If you are not attending in-person please remember to support the church financially. Mary Reichenbach, the Congregation’s Financial Officer has indicated that contributions can be mailed to her house (10223 Briar Dr., Overland Park, KS 66207) or the church (7842 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208), or you can sign up for eTithing on the World Church website https://www.cofchrist.org/etithing). Any of these options will enable you to continue your regular contributions.

If you use the eTithing site, select the United States link and then scroll down to Mission Road Community of Christ. When you click on that page, there will be an option in the upper right-hand corner to ’sign up’ to create your account and enter either your bank account information for direct debit or a credit card to charge your contribution, or ’sign in’ if you have already set up your account. You may also choose a one-time contribution or a continuing contribution. Most of the contribution options on our tithing envelopes are available on the Mission Road eTithing page. If you have additional questions about electronic contributions, please contact Mary.

CONCERNING PRAYER REQUESTS

Please know that any member of the congregation can post prayer requests or share information about members, and events on the Mission Road Members Only Facebook page. You do not need to send the information for approval to anyone. In fact, doing so may slow down the dissemination of your request. Be sure to include the person needing prayers and what situation has occurred (if you wish to share that information). If your post concerns an event or news item, be sure to include the basics in your posting (such as who, what, where and when).

For prayer requests, if you do not have access to Facebook, then please call Paul Bennetts our Congregational Pastoral Care Coordinator.

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITHOUT EMAIL OR FACEBOOK ACCESS?

If you know someone in the congregation that does not have email and does not use Facebook, please let Jonathan Bacon know. We are trying to be sure everyone in the congregation has access to periodic news updates and information on congregational activities.
