UPCOMING EVENTS
NEXT ALL GOOD BOOKS CLUB MEETING
The next meeting of the All Good Books group will meet in the Church Library on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at 7:00 PM to meet Dr. William Reed and discuss his book "The Pulse of Hope: A Surgeon’s Memoirs from Poverty to Prosperity."
"The Pulse of Hope" is available at Rainy Day Books but does not seem to be available in local libraries or on Amazon.
We hope you can join us in May for "The Pulse of Hope" discussion and visit by Dr. Reed.
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS SCHEDULE
The Adult Sunday School class is studying Mark Scherer’s “The Journey of a People: The Era of Reorganization, 1844 to 1946.” For next Sunday, May 10 read chapters 2 and 3 (“Restoring the Family to Nauvoo” and “Mother and Son”). Jane Landrum will be teaching the class on Sunday, May 10.
If you do not have the book and want a copy contact Jonathan Bacon. Unfortunately, Herald House sells only the two-volume set, volume 2 is not for sale by itself. When we have sufficient orders for the $59.95 two-volume set, we’ll pick up an order at the Temple Bookstore.
BAPTISM AND CONFIRMATION SERVICE COMING SOON
The Pastorate is pleased to announce a baptismal and confirmation service to be held on Sunday, May 31, 2015, beginning at 9:15 AM. There will be no Sunday School classes that day so that all members of the congregation may support the baptism of our new members. Breakfast will begin at 8:45 AM so come join the fellowship followed by the baptismal service and confirmation.
BOOK TABLE UPDATE
Our table of “donated books” has morphed into a “clear your bookcases and bring more books to church” project. We are extending the collection of your unwanted books until the end of October. Please place any books you bring into the box(es) under the table in the Fellowship Hall.
BLOOD DRIVE
Allie Libeer and three of her friends are organizing a blood drive to be held in the church fellowship hall on Sunday, May 24 from 1-4 PM fulfilling a required committee service project for school. If it is your practice to donate blood please consider supporting them on the 24th.
YOUTH QUEST COMING JUNE 11-13, 2015
Please remember Youth Quest is an overnight camp in OUR building for children who have completed grades K-2 in May. If you are a grandparent or parent, sign your child up now! It is a fun vacation bible school-type activity with a sleep over. These are the kids that will be going to camp in the future. You can drop in and see how they are holding up, they go swimming and do all kinds of fun activities. Registrations are handled like all other MMC camp registrations. The forms are on the table in the Fellowship Hall in front of the bulletin board!
JULY 4TH CELEBRATION
Plans are underway for the Mission Road Congregation’s Annual July 4th Celebration. Debbie Rushfelt is coordinating the event and looking for volunteers. We’ll have Bouncy Houses for the children again this year, including one with an obstacle course!
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Please remember to talk to Karen Birkby about how you’d like to assist with vacation Bible school. It will be held the evenings of July 12, 13, 14 and 15, 2015. Please add these dates to your calendar.
YOUTH CAMP REGISTRATIONS AND REUNIONS
The youth camp registration forms and booklets are on the table in the fellowship hall next to the bulletin board. All forms are due on May 1. Also, reunion registration forms are on the table as well.
