​ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS SCHEDULE

The Adult Sunday School class is studying Mark Scherer’s “The Journey of a People: The Era of Reorganization, 1844 to 1946.” On Sunday, the class discussion will finish discussing the “New Translation” of the Bible (discussed in Chapter 8, “On to Plano, Illinois”) and begin covering Chapter 9 (“Institutional Development”). Jonathan Bacon will lead the class discussion.

If you do not own the two-volume set (The Journey of a People) church history written by Mark Scherer, there is still a copy in the church library (back shelf) that is available for purchase ($59.95 for the 2-volume set—just add to your offering with a special notation that you’re paying for the church history books). If no one wishes to purchase, the books are available to borrow. If you borrow, we ask that you keep the books out no more than 1-2 weeks at a time.

NEXT BOOK CLUB MEETING IN JULY

The next meeting of the All Good Books discussion group will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 7:00 PM in the Church Library. At that time we’ll discuss “The Goldfinch” by Donna Tartt.

It is a lengthy book, 771 pages, so start reading soon! We look forward to discussing this 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Literature book.

JULY 4 CELEBRATION AND PICNIC

Please see Debbie Rushfelt if you are available to help at the Congregational Celebration Picnic on July 4. We will have two great Bouncy Houses again this year; one will have an obstacle course again! Helpers are needed, so please sign up for the 4th of July fun activities. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Plans are starting to shape up for Vacation Bible School (VBS) scheduled for the evenings of July 12, 13, 14 and 15, 2015. Please add these dates to your calendar.

Each evening will start with a dinner at 5:30 PM with children moving to their classes around 6:00 PM. This year we’ll offer an adult track with learning new hymns between 6:30-7:00 and then a speaker for the adults between 7-8 PM.

Please remember to talk to Karen Birkby about how you’d like to assist with vacation Bible school. Volunteers are invited and welcome!

Consider reaching out to families with young children with a special invitation to attend.

Audio recordings from previous years are located in folders corresponding to the year (2005, 2006, 2007, and so on). If you missed a Sunday, this provides you a way to hear the music and the message.
