THIS WEEK’S MISSION ROAD NEWS: OCTOBER 22, 2017

CHILI COOK-OFF COMING ON OCTOBER 29

The Annual Mission Road Chili Cook-Off and Supper will be held on Sunday evening, October 29th from 5:30-7:30 PM. The evening will include Karaoke and a Halloween Costume Contest in addition to the Chili Cook-Off competition. If you “know” your chili is “the best” sign-up at church to bring a pot and enter the competition! The costume competition will include an adult division as well as a youth division.

The cost for the evening is $7 for anyone 7 or older. Children under 7 are free. Proceeds again this year will go to Outreach International, the Central Avenue Center of Hope and Camp MITIOG. Please see Alisa Morse for advance tickets.

Mark your calendar and plan to join us for karaoke, chili, hot dogs, nachos and a friendly costume competition on October 29th!

WINTER WORSHIP AVAILABILITY FORM NOW AVAILABLE

Preparation is beginning for the Winter Worship Schedule. Please take a moment to complete your Worship Availability Form (WAF) and return to the Worship Coordinators, Pam O’Neal or Caryn Brown. You may also place this form in the “In” box located in the Narthex on the wall by the church office or email this form to: carynpbro or mail to: Mission Road Community of Christ, Attention Worship, 7842 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208.

The WAF is available online at https://goo.gl/PaZP1y in a Microsoft Word format document.

HMA HONDURAS NURSE PROGRAM PLEDGE

In the continuing effort to support our full-time nurse (Saira Giron) in providing healthcare to the villages in the area near La Buena Fe, Honduras, we are collecting pledges for 2018. It would be helpful to have pledge forms returned by December 1 so we can finalize planning for next year.

If you are willing and able to help, please complete your pledge (available at church) and return the form to Paul Bennetts at your earliest convenience. All pledges are fully tax-deductible as HMA is a 501c3 organization. No checks are needed at this time but donations can be made before December 31 if you want a receipt for 2017. Paul Bennetts will let you know when it is time to submit the payment for your pledge. Thanks again for your help with this very worthwhile project.

ADULT CLASS ON LETTERS OF THE APOSTLE PAUL CONTINUES

Next Sunday, the adult class will discuss Chapters 7-8 of First Corinthians. Be sure to read pages 100-105 in the Wiley book (the discussion of First and Second Corinthians). Paul Bennetts will lead the discussion. Make it a habit; bring your Bible to class (any version).

ADULT CLASS STUDIES THE COMMUNITY OF CHRIST

A second adult class meets each Sunday for adults interested in learning about church membership. This class is informational, for anyone wanting to know more about the Community of Christ. The class is held during the regular Sunday School hour (starting at 9:15 AM). All are invited to join the class taught by Ron Millard and Karen Birkby.

TWO BOOK DISCUSSIONS FOR THE PRICE OF ONE

The All Good Books group will meet on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 7 PM in the Church Library. The group will discuss two books: “The Westing Game” by Ellen Raskin (previously scheduled for the cancelled October meeting) and “The Obsession” by Nora Roberts. MISSED LAST SUNDAY’S SERVICE?

Would you like to hear the message from last Sunday or a Sunday service from 3 years ago? Audio recordings of many of the last several years’ worth of worship services are available online at https://goo.gl/wREl03. Note this is a new shortened URL that will take you to a Google Drive with many of the recordings from the past.

Recordings are located in folders corresponding to the year (2015, 2016, and so on). If you missed a Sunday, this provides you a way to hear the music and the message.

The beginning numbers of each filename indicate the date of the service.

The first 4 digits represent the year; the next two digits indicate the month and last two digits represent the day of the month.

In most cases, the date is followed by a dash and then the first initial and last name of the speaker. Enjoy!

NOTE: If you experience problems playing these audio files be sure you’re running the latest version of your browser or try a different browser. In some cases, you may be required to download the audio file before playing it.

The following list includes some recent audio recordings:

15 October 2017 message by Clint Reine, filename 20171015-CReine.mp3

08 October 2017 message by Arlene Leonard, filename: 20171008-ALeonard.mp3

08 October 2017 1 PM Congregational Business Meeting, filename: 20171008S-Business.Meeting.mp3 (downloadable only, too large to be played online).

01 October 2017 message by Jerry Rushfelt, filename: 20171001-GRushfelt.mp3

CONCERNING PRAYER REQUESTS

Please know that any member of the congregation can post prayer requests or share information about members and events on the Mission Road Members Only Facebook page. You do not need to send the information for approval to anyone. In fact doing so may slow down the dissemination of your request. Be sure to include the person needing prayers and what situation has occurred (if you wish to share that information). If your post concerns an event or news item, be sure to include the basics in your posting (such as who, what, where and when).

For prayer requests, if you do not have access to Facebook, then please call Paul Bennetts or John Trinkl Sr., our Congregational Pastoral Care Coordinators.
