There’s a signup sheet at church for those who can assist with the Mission Road Congregation’s July 4th Celebration (9 am to Noon on the 4th). Needed are cashiers, servers, face painters and other helpers to inflate balloons and other chores. The Celebration is open to the entire community and will include a free bouncy house, hotdogs for sale, face painting and more. Contact Ron Millard if you’re able to volunteer.

THIS WEEK’S BOOK CLUB MEETING

The All Good Books group will meet on Thursday, June 21, 2018 to discuss “Mrs. Lincoln’s Dressmaker” by Jennifer Chiaverini. We’ll meet in the Church Library.

Discussion questions will be posted on the club’s website soon (allbooksclub.wordpress.com). Plan to Join us!

ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTION

Construction on the elevator project has begun. During construction please be aware of your surroundings as you move throughout the building and property. There will be construction materials and other hazards from time to time. Plus, you will find extra vehicles in our parking lot. Because of the construction of the new Prairie Village Fire Station we will also have extra vehicles in our parking lot. Please be mindful of our visitors.

Because of the discovery of the sewer line from the women’s restroom running through where the elevator shaft is going the women’s restroom will be temporary closed. I sewage pump system has been orders and installation will be completed by the Church services on July 1st. Because the women’s restroom will be closed next Sunday we will not have breakfast provided or Sunday school classes. Please mark you calendars and plan ahead for next Sunday’s limited services and reduced restroom facilities.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL: THE STORY OF CHRISTIANITY

The Adult Sunday School Class is now studying “The Story of Christianity: The Early Church to the Dawn of the Reformation, Volume 1” by Justo Gonzalez.

Next Sunday we’ll cover Chapter 5 “First Conflicts with the State.” Jonathan Bacon will lead the discussion.

If you received the class text, please remember to add $21 to your offering with a notation that it covers the “Adult Class Book.”

ADULT INFORMATION CLASS ABOUT THE COMMUNITY OF CHRIST

This new class continues each Sunday for adults interested in learning about church membership this class is informational, if class members want baptism or if class members simply want to know more about Community of Christ. Baptism is not necessarily an outcome of class attendance. The class will be held during the regular Sunday School hour (starting at 9:15 AM). Please join the class in the Chapel, taught by Karen Birkby and Ron Millard, if interested.

MISSED LAST SUNDAY’S SERVICE?

Would you like to hear the message from last Sunday or a Sunday service from 3 years ago? Audio recordings of many of the last several years’ worth of worship services are available online at https://goo.gl/wREl03. Note this is a new shortened URL that will take you to a Google Drive with many of the recordings from the past.

Recordings are located in folders corresponding to the year (2015, 2016, and so on). If you missed a Sunday, this provides you a way to hear the music and the message.

The beginning numbers of each filename indicate the date of the service.

The first 4 digits represent the year; the next two digits indicate the month and last two digits represent the day of the month.

In most cases, the date is followed by a dash and then the first initial and last name of the speaker. Enjoy!

NOTE: If you experience problems playing these audio files be sure you’re running the latest version of your browser or try a different browser. In some cases, you may be required to download the audio file before playing it.

The following list includes some recent audio recordings:

17 June 2018 message by Kirk Barnhard, filename 20180617-KBarnhard.mp3

16 June 2018 Youth Caravan Service, filename: 20180616-Youth.Caravan.mp3

CONCERNING PRAYER REQUESTS

Please know that any member of the congregation can post prayer requests or share information about members and events on the Mission Road Members Only Facebook page. You do not need to send the information for approval to anyone. In fact doing so may slow down the dissemination of your request. Be sure to include the person needing prayers and what situation has occurred (if you wish to share that information). If your post concerns an event or news item, be sure to include the basics in your posting (such as who, what, where and when).

For prayer requests, if you do not have access to Facebook, then please call Paul Bennetts our Congregational Pastoral Care Coordinator.
