HELP US HELP YOU
If you have news to share in the weekly church email newsletter, please write it out and send to Jonathan Bacon or Larry Birkby by Noon on Sunday each week. It’s important that you include the basics about each announcement: Who, What, When and Where. If the information is incomplete, we cannot guarantee getting it in the newsletter in a timely fashion.
If you have people to add to the prayer list, please contact Kennetha Kuttler.

PASSING OF ROBERT SINDT
We’re saddened to report that Robert Sindt passed away Tuesday, October 19, apparently due to a heart attack. Please remember Robert’s extended family in this time of grief; his wife Kathryn, the families of his three sons Peter, Leland, and Timm, and his cousin Karen Birkby.
Robert retired from Johnson County Community College where he initially worked in the Educational Technology Center and later taught in the Computer Information Systems program. He’s also been responsible for posting our weekly newsletter to our website, Facebook and sending the information out via email each week. Robert will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at Mission Road on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 10 AM. Please remember Robert’s family and friends who are grieving his loss. The service will also be available on Zoom like all other Mission Road Worship Services.
IN-PERSON AND ON ZOOM
Next Sunday, October 31, 2021, the Mission Road Congregation will meet in-person in the church building and concurrently broadcast on Zoom. In the church building, social distancing with face masks will be required. We’re looking forward to seeing you all in church face-to-face, while Zoom will continue to be an option for both the Adult Class and the Worship Service.
NEXT SUNDAY’S WORSHIP
For Sunday, October 31, 2021, the worship theme is “Where You Go, I Will Go.” Ron Millard will deliver the morning message. Dorothy May will preside and Kennetha Kuttler will serve as the worship planner. Jonathan Bacon will provide the PowerPoint and host the Zoom session assisted by Caryn Brown as co-host. You are invited to join us online or in the church sanctuary for worship starting at 10:30 AM.
ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS MEETS AT 9 AM
The Mission Road Adult Sunday School Class will continue the study of “A History of God” by Karen Armstrong. Jane Landrum will finish the discussion of Chapter 6 (“The God of the Philosophers”) and then Marilyn Gairns will lead the discussion of Chapter 7 (“The God of the Mystics”). The class session now begins 15 minutes earlier at 9:00 AM in the Church Library and on Zoom.
ITEMS NEEDED FOR THE CENTER OF HOPE PANTRY
Our congregation serves an important role by providing household goods and clothing (new or gently used) and food for the Center of Hope. Please add the following drop off dates to your calendar. Members will be at church between 10 AM and noon on these dates to accept your donations!
Saturday, November 13, 2021
Saturday, November 20, 2021
Saturday, December 4, 2021
Saturday, December 11, 2021
The Center is especially in need of toilet tissue, to-go containers, and napkins because they didn’t have the paper good drive this year.
Always needed are items like hygiene items (masks, shampoo, hand lotion, razors, deodorant, toothpaste, and toothbrushes), lunches items (snacks, pudding, crackers, granola bars, fruit cups, chips, cookies, lunch bags, sandwich bags, and sliced cheese), pantry items (soups, tuna, beans, cereal, side dishes, jelly, vegetables, and fruits) and for the homeless (coats, hats, gloves, blankets, jeans, sweatshirts, and boots). Of course, the Thrift Store can use anything!
CENTER FOR HOPE THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS NEEDS
The Center is again planning for Holiday meals. The Thanksgiving meal will be on November 25 and Christmas meal on December 23. Like we have in the past couple of years we will be taking up special offerings until the Holiday season is over. It is easier for us as well as the CACH staff if we provide money. They can then buy what they need in the quantities they need. That way they don’t end up with too many Turkeys or Hams and not enough Corn or Beans and no Potatoes. So, during the next few weeks please add to your offering for Central Avenue of Hope. Mission Road can also help with a paper drive for the Center.
At the Christmas meal the Center will hand out gifts. Christmas gift ideas include:
socks, gloves, caps, personal items, and candy.
CACH will need gifts for 50 men, 30 women, 20 children age 1 to 10, and 20 youth age 11 to 16
Please mark the bag or box indicating who the gift is for. CACH is also going to do the Christmas Store Project and will need donations of toys, clothes, books, socks, gloves, caps etc.
SAVE THESE DATES
Together, with their families, Alyssa Parrish and Matthew Zabel would like to invite the members of the Mission Road Community of Christ congregation to join them virtually to their wedding ceremony on December 18th, 2021. Although they would love to have everyone together in person, we are unable to do this at this time due to the covid-19 pandemic. We are glad to be able to utilize technology to keep everyone included in the celebration. You can share in the sacrament service by signing into Zoom as you would for all other Mission Road worship services. The time of the wedding will be announced later.
A Worldwide Conference Preparation Event is scheduled for June 9-11, 2022.
NEW INTERNET SERVICE – NEW EMAIL – NEW WI-FI – NO CHURCH PHONE
Google Fiber has been installed in the Church. So, the old email has disappeared. The new email address is: missionroadcc
Please change your contact information now and start using the new address for any email communication.
We also have a new password for the Wi-Fi at church. Information how to access the new Google system is posted on the church bulletin board.
We are eliminating the church phone. Most everyone has a cell phone and since we are changing from ATT to Google, we are eliminating the land line.

We are only posting the sermon or Sunday message portion of each service due to copyright concerns. Also please note that in some cases, Zoom failed to record the service.
New videos will be posted as soon as possible following each message/sermon.

TITHES AND OFFERINGS
Please remember that church expenses continue. If you are not attending in-person please remember to support the church financially. Mary Reichenbach, the Congregation’s Financial Officer has indicated that contributions can be mailed to her house (10223 Briar Dr., Overland Park, KS 66207) or the church (7842 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208), or you can sign up for eTithing on the World Church website https://www.cofchrist.org/etithing). Any of these options will enable you to continue your regular contributions.
If you use the eTithing site, select the United States link and then scroll down to Mission Road Community of Christ. When you click on that page, there will be an option in the upper right-hand corner to ’sign up’ to create your account and enter either your bank account information for direct debit or a credit card to charge your contribution, or ’sign in’ if you have already set up your account. You may also choose a one-time contribution or a continuing contribution. Most of the contribution options on our tithing envelopes are available on the Mission Road eTithing page. If you have additional questions about electronic contributions, please contact Mary.
CONCERNING PRAYER REQUESTS
Please know that any member of the congregation can post prayer requests or share information about members, and events on the Mission Road Members Only Facebook page. You do not need to send the information for approval to anyone. In fact, doing so may slow down the dissemination of your request. Be sure to include the person needing prayers and what situation has occurred (if you wish to share that information). If your post concerns an event or news item, be sure to include the basics in your posting (such as who, what, where and when).
For prayer requests, if you do not have access to Facebook, then please call Paul Bennetts our Congregational Pastoral Care Coordinator or email Kennetha Kuttler at missionroadcc.
DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITHOUT EMAIL OR FACEBOOK ACCESS?
If you know someone in the congregation that does not have email and does not use Facebook, please let Jonathan Bacon know. We are trying to be sure everyone in the congregation has access to periodic news updates and information on congregational activities.
