Mission Road News

The Adult Sunday School class will begin studying The Secret Message of Jesus: Uncovering the Truth that Could Change Everything by Brian D. McLaren on Sunday, October 25 during the 9:30-10:15 AM Sunday school class hour. In the book, McLaren invites the reader to discover afresh the transforming message of Jesus – an open invitation to radical change, an enlightening revelation that exposes shame and ignites hope, an epic story that is good news for everyone, whatever their gender, race, class, politics, or religion.

Jonathan Bacon, Paul Bennetts, Jane Landrum, Jennifer Libeer, and Dennis Wood will team teach the class with Jonathan taking the lead on October 25th.

Copies of the book are available for $15.50 for the paperback (which includes taxes); a savings over the retail price of $15.99 (before taxes). If you want a copy, contact Jonathan Bacon. The cost of the book should be added to your Sunday offering with a notation that it covers the class text. The book is also available from Amazon.com for the Kindle or Kindle app @ $8.99.

The Annual Chili Road Cook-Off and Supper will occur this coming Sunday evening, October 25, 2015 starting at 5:00 PM. Please mark your calendar! Chili Cook-Off volunteers are still needed. Tickets are now available at $7 for anyone 7 or older, under age 7 are free. If you need tickets please see Debbie Rushfelt. Proceeds benefit Outreach International, the Central Avenue Center for Hope (including the Food Pantry) and Camp MITIOG! Invite your friends to join in the fun including Karaoke!

The Central Avenue Center of Hope’s Paper Drive continues until October 25, 2015. All paper items desperately needed (paper plates, dessert plates, toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, cups, spoons, forks, knives, and more)!

Also Coats, Jackets, Blankets, and any donations of this type are always accepted (Is it time to clean out your closets?). If we as a congregation can make a concentrated effort to donate now through October 25, it will help meet the tremendous needs that come with winter; so many people are truly in need.

And don’t forget: Food items are always needed!

Work has begun on the Congregational Directory for next year. Please take a moment and check your individual or family listing(s) in the draft directory. The mark-up copy can be found on the round table in the Fellowship hall.

As of August 25, 2015, the camp is short $6,500 in meeting expenses. We borrowed from our reserves to pay all camp bills this year but would really like to break even if possible. We maximized our Camps for Kids Grant this year, which helped significantly, but camp expenses were higher. We had 57 campers, which is the maximum we can serve each year, which is great, but the cost is higher. Please consider sending your donation to:
