ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS SCHEDULE

If you’re coming to the Adult Sunday School class on Sunday December 22, 2013, try to read Ether chapters 1-3 (about 10 pages) before class and bring your Book of Mormon to class. We’ll continue to focus on answers to some of the questions that were posed by class members, such as:

  • Has anyone translated the Book of Mormon characters presented to Professor Anthon?
  • Was there more than one set of transcribed characters from the Book of Mormon plates?
  • Are the Book of Mormon characters similar to Egyptian, Hebraic or characters found in the Americas?
  • We’ll also explore the birth of Jesus as recorded in the Book of Mormon.

Readings for the next few Sundays include Chapter 6 of “Millions Call It Scripture: The Book of Mormon in the 21st Century” by Alan Tyree; Chapter VI of Luffman’s “The Book of Mormon’s Witness to Its First Readers” and Chapter 6 of Scherer’s “The Journey of a People” (Volume 1).

One More Shopping Day…

…Till it’s time to return your Shoe Box Gifts for the Central Avenue Center for Hope to church! Please bring your gifts to church this Sunday, December 15, 2014.

And if you didn’t get a tag, we can still use your help! Over twenty gift tags are still lacking owners. To help meet the need at the Center, bring a gift and we’ll attach a tag. Just make a note somewhere on your gift package (with a post-it) whether the gift is for an adult male or female. Also please indicate if the gifts fit a medium or large person.

Directions: simply fill a wrapped shoe box or sealed gift bag with an assortment of the following suggested items – gloves, scarfs, hat, socks, underwear, fleece blanket, lighters, flashlight, candle in tin, snack food, water bottle, toothbrush, tooth paste, soap, deodorant, body spray, chapstick. Bring your gift box or bag to church on Sunday, December 15th!

Apostle Stassi D. Cramm will conduct the adult class this Sunday (December 15) and focus on “What’s New?” within the church. Apostle Cramm will highlight some of the resources that have recently been developed and what people should watch for in the coming year. She’ll also field questions people have based on what they are reading in the Herald, on the church website, and so on.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS SCHEDULE

On Sunday December 8, 2013 the Adult Sunday School class will focus on answers to some of the questions that were posed in class recently, such as:

  • Has anyone translated the Book of Mormon characters presented to Professor Anthon?

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS SCHEDULE

During the Adult Sunday School class yesterday we discussed the Methodist Conversion process, the First Vision and the Book of Mormon. Next Sunday, November 24, we’ll focus on mysticism and the translation process of the Book of Mormon. Specifically we’ll talk about the timeline of the translation process, plus the use of the Urim and Thummim vs. a seer stone in the translation of the Book of Mormon. Upcoming discussions will focus on 19th Century and contemporary issues addressed by the Book of Mormon. Bring your Book of Mormon and continue reading the Book of Mosiah (all chapters).

If you want more information on yesterday’s discussion of the Methodist Conversion Form, Joseph Smith’s First Vision and parallels in the Book of Mormon, check out Chapter 13 of “The Book of Mormon’s Witness to Its First Readers” by Dale Luffman as well as pages 62-62 (Chapter Four) of “The Journey of a People” by Church Historian Mark A. Starting on Sunday, November 17, 2013 (and over the next few weeks), the Church History/Book of Mormon adult class led by Jane Landrum and Jonathan Bacon will focus on three areas 1) mysticism and the translation process of the Book of Mormon, 2) the Methodist Conversion process, the First Vision and the Book of Mormon, and 3) 19th Century and contemporary issues addressed by the Book of Mormon. Bring your Book of Mormon and continue reading the Book of Mosiah (all chapters).

Readings for coming Sundays include Chapters 3 and 4 of Millions Call It Scripture: The Book of Mormon in the 21st Century” by Alan Tyree; Chapters 3, 4 and 13 of “The Book of Mormon’s Witness to Its First Readers” by Dale Luffman and Chapters 5-6 of “The Journey of a People” by Church Historian Mark A. Scherer.

Note: The adult class continues to study “The Journey of a People” by Church Historian Mark A. Scherer (typically on the first and second Sundays of each month) and then focus on “Investigating the Book of Mormon” (typically on the third, fourth and fifth Sundays of each month) using the Tyree and Luffman books.  This schedule may vary during the upcoming holiday season.
