The adult class has begun studying “The Journey of a People” by Church Historian Mark A. Scherer (on the first and second Sundays of each month) and also focusing on “Investigating the Book of Mormon” (on the third, fourth and fifth Sundays of each month).

Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 9:30 AM – the class will continue discussion of Mark A. Scherer’s “The Journey of a People, Volume I.” The book is not required but for those interested; the two volume set is available from Herald House for $59.95.  If you have the books, please read chapters 1-2. Jane Landrum will lead this class.

Sunday, August 18, 2013 at 9:30 AM – the class will continue discussion of the Book of Mormon using Alan D. Tyree’s text “Millions Call It Scripture: The Book of Mormon in the 21st Century.” The book is not required but for those interested; it is available from Herald House for $19.95.  Additionally, we’ll also cover some information in “The Book of Mormon’s Witness to Its First Readers” by Dale E. Luffman. If you have the books, please read chapters 1-2 in each book. Jonathan Bacon will lead this class.

Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 9:30 AM – the class will continue discussion of the Book of Mormon. Jonathan Bacon will lead this class.

THIS WEEK’S CALENDAR: July 29-August 4, 2013

Monday Thru Wednesday, July 29-30, 2013, 6:30-8:30 PM – Vacation Bible School.  Activities for all ages of children and adults! This year’s overall theme is “God’s Backyard Bible Camp- Under the Stars.”

Each night’s theme will focus on “Serving.” On Monday we’ll focus on “Serve Family,” on Tuesday “Serve Community” and on Wednesday “Serve Jesus.” Adults, tonight we’ll discuss discovering and recording your family history, tomorrow we’ll talk about Social Networks (Facebook, Twitter and so on) and Wednesday we’ll have an open book discussion. Come join us each night!

Vacation Bible School – July 29-31, 2013 6:30-8:30 PM

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL (VBS) at Mission Road is fast approaching with the theme “God’s Backyard Bible Camp- Under the Stars.” And this year it’s not just for kids!

Mark your calendars for Monday thru Wednesday July 29-31, 2013 from 6:30-8:30 PM. Each night’s theme will focus on “Serving.” On Monday we’ll focus on “Serve Family,” on Tuesday “Serve Community” and on Wednesday “Serve Jesus.”

As part of the VBS we’ll conduct a service project to raise $150 to send to Back2Back ministries (http://back2back.org/) which works with orphans in Mexico.

FOR THE ADULTS: We’ll meet with the children for an opening and closing session each night and then hold special interest sessions for Adults in the Sanctuary. On Monday, we’ll talk about “Recording Your Family History” (with a discussion of sources and ways to save your information). On Tuesday, we’ll discuss “Social Media (Facebook, Twitter) Tips and Tricks” (including how to access, post and benefit from the congregation’s Facebook page). On Wednesday, you’re invited to a “Bring Your Own Book” discussion. Come share what you’ve been reading and hear from others what’s on their reading list. For those who want to accept the challenge, read “Proof of Heaven” by Eben Alexander, MD and we’ll spend part of the evening discussing that book.
